Boston Trio

SIMPLY SUBLIME
Since their formation in 1997, the Boston Trio has quickly become one of today’s most exciting chamber music groups. Acclaimed for their superb sense of ensemble and wondrous balance, these virtuosic and profound musicians are committed to creating exceptional and daring performances of standard and contemporary repertoire around the country and abroad.

Violinist Irina Muresanu, cellist Denise Djokic, and pianist Heng-Jin Park each have distinguished careers as soloists, recitalists, and chamber musicians, and have appeared with major orchestras and premier chamber music festivals throughout the United States and Europe.  Cellist Ms. Djokic, one of Canada’s most celebrated musicians, has earned world-wide acclaim for her powerful interpretations and bold command of the instrument. Ms. Muresanu, is the recipient of top prizes at the Montreal International Competition and the Queen Elizabeth Violin Competition. Pianist Heng-Jin Park, is the founding member of the Boston Trio, and the Artistic Director of the Killington Music Festival in Vermont.

Committed to bringing chamber music to broader audiences and aspiring young musicians, the Boston Trio has coached chamber music at the Tanglewood, served as Ensemble-in-Residence at the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and currently at the New England Conservatory and the Killington Music Festival.

The Boston Trio features one of Winnipeg’s favourite cellists – Denise Djokic – who has appeared on the Virtuosi stage many times. I spoke to her about the programme the ensemble will perform on Saturday:

“The Schubert Piano Trio No. 1 is the major work of the evening, comprising the entire second half.  It really speaks to me,” she said. “It’s incredibly lyrical and jovial, reflecting happiness, innocence and peace. It’s not without conflict, but it’s very optimistic. It’s quite unique in the repertoire. I know your audience will really enjoy it.”

You may wish to familiarize yourself with this piece by viewing in on youtube, as performed recently by The Beaux Arts Trio with Menahem Pressler.

This Boston Trio concert is being recorded for future broadcast on “In Concert” on CBC Radio with host Paola Pietropaolo. 98.3 FM
